Typing 101

So, this "old fashioned", rather write it then type it gal, has realized the tough truth.  In this day and age, we all must type at one point in our lives. (which makes sense since I am doing it NOW!)

The last time I remember taking a typing class was probably in middle school.  And that's going waaaaaaay back! I mean this is what I had to work with people!

I guess I can't complain because I can type without looking at the keyboard. Not that I want to type for a living or anything.

Anyway, the reason I brought it up was that I know my kids will have to learn how to type for basically any job that they apply for.  So I did some research and I found a program that is AWESOME!  All I have to do is put the CD in and pick the lesson I want the kids to work on. It shows them where to put their hands and which fingers should strike which button on the keyboard.  It records how long it took them to type the lesson and how many times they made a mistake.  It's great!

The program has fun games that the kids play and they don't realize they're learning! Remember Q-Bert? There's a game that is kinda like it.  There's a character they pretend they are and they have to get him away from the bad guys! They start at the top of a pyramid and the next steps down are two words. They have to type the work on the "cube" where they want to character to go. This goes on and on until they beat the level. If the bad guys get them, game over!  It's fun!  I've actually played it a few times.

The kids will usually do this once or twice a week for about 15 minutes. It's really nice when they put on headphones and work on their own.

If you're looking for a program for you kids or even to better to better your typing skills, this one is a sure winner!  Check it out on Amazon!  Typing Instructor
