So, this year I have a 5th grader and a 4th grader! Man, are they getting old! ;)
I usually start after Labor Day, but this year I started the third week in August since our Co-op was starting the last week of the month. I thought that maybe we could get into the routine and ease into the busy school year! The kids wanted to start early, but I needed a little more summer before I started another fun year of homeschool!
Both blessings have their core curriculum with Bob Jones. This year though, I switch both their spelling to Megawords. I've heard a lot of great reviews about their program, so I wanted to give them a try. In the beginning some of the words are super easy, but it goes over their spelling rules, which I really like. So far the kids are really liking this. They told me they like it better than last years, so right now it's a keeper. Mini me is on book 2 and Super Boy is on Book 1. You can check out there programs at the following link. MegaWords
Another change I've made is I wanted the kids to do more vocabulary and more independent work. I found Vocabulary Workshop by Sadlier and all three of us are loving it! Every day the kids work in their workbooks and then they get to do an activity on the computer. This has been a great way for them to work on their typing skills more and also a great way to review. They have some cute games, which makes learning fun! Mini Me is working in the blue book this year and Super Boy is working in the orange book.
Check all their workbooks at Sadlier Vocabulary Workshop.
For writing this year, I am trying A Reason For Handwriting. The kids are loving it because it's fun and they also learn and write Bible verses, which is a reason I love it too! The reviews for this have been great and the kids say they are enjoying it better than last year too! Mini Me is doing Book E and Super Boy is doing Book D. Check them out at A Reason For Handwriting.
We're continuing our Bible with Apologia, the second book in the series called "Who Am I and What Am I Doing Here? We are also loving it and the kids are learning a lot about where their true identity lies. Apologia
We have kept everything else the same with Bob Jones. I really like everything about it and the kids seem to pick up the material better than some of the other things we have tried, especially math. We are still doing Mystery of History and they are dong Chemistry in Co-op.
So far the school year has been going really well, but we are only a week and a day in! PRAYERS!
